Sounds of Silence / Simon and Garfunkel, Daily Prompt

This is response to Daily Prompt: Eye of the Beholder

Describe what it feels like to hear a beautiful piece of music or see a stunning piece of art. Photographers, artists, poets: show us BEAUTY.

I heard the Sounds of Silence (Simon and Garfunkel) while in Florence, Italy some years ago next to Michelangelo’s David. I did not see the band who was playing because the music calmly flooded the streets and squares.

And I did not even know that it was Simon and Garfunkel until I found some time afterwards that someone had uploaded on YouTube exactly the same song heard in Florence just in a different period of time.

Apparently it’s a song you’ll hear forever in Florence 🙂 By night, mind you!

P.S. I even found the name of the artist: Ken Mercer, you may see him in Florence on Youtube 🙂 or live, depending on your summer budget!

Hi. Is there a special meaning that this song has to the people of Florence?

    • I think it’s a fantastic appeal for the tourists that roam around the old streets and squares. The artist who plays it apparently plays it each summer during evenings and it’s a haunting song when you hear in an old square surrounded by old statues and walls. It’s haunting and beautiful at the same time.
