Truth is that I did promise over here to do a post on flea markets and Plainpalais in Geneva is my favourite flea market not only because it’s full of interesting things and my cobalt coffee mug is from there, but also because it’s located in downtown close to the Vieille Ville and of course to UniGe so you cannot miss it.
Plainpalais flea market in Geneva typically unfolds on Wednesday and Saturday and the best time to peruse its Aladdin wonders is of course morning time.
While on Wednesday you have your quiet walk around old books (best books ever) and vibrant ceramics, on Saturday you also get to sample amazing food from local Swiss and French traiteurs spanning from cheese to cured meat and spices.
Pictures are from some years now but they perfectly capture the atmosphere, the esprit causeur of vendors and colours. Flea markets or marché aux puces are about enjoying things whose value defies time, but also about bonding with the history of acquired items.
It looks really cozy and a lots of great atmosphere
very well written and very well captured photos.too.. 😉
It is 🙂 Where I live now, open air flea markets are rarely the case and the ones existing are kept inside within malls which is not very atractive, but the one in Plainpalais is worth the visit 🙂
love these photos!
Thanks!
